Difference between Total Robobases and triplebases

Post by Terminator-I on May 11th 2011, 01:45

Dear Friends,

Hope this information is educating for you :
TripleBases are bitbases (like Scorpio EGBB, or Shredder bases) which makes them
much smaller so the 3, 4, and 5 pieces fit easily into memory (either as a 400 mb
version or an even faster 800 mb version). Because they are preloaded into memory,
access is much faster they can be used everywhere in the search tree.

You can download the 400 Mb version here:
rapidshare.com TripleBases.rar

Frankin T has made them freely available from his excellent FTP site:

FTP Server: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
FTP Server Port: 21

I recommend downloading them with an FTP client, for ex:
Filezilla (http://filezilla-project.org/)

TripleBases use by default the sub-directory /TripleBases...
this is a sub-directory located in same directory as FireBird 1.1 executable.

If your TripleBase archive is named RobboTripleBases.rar, or something other than
TripleBases.rar, please rename it to TripleBases.rar. Then, extract the archive
TripleBases.rar into the same directory as the FireBird 1.1 executable using
right-click menu choice 'Extract Here'...the correct sub-directory structure
will automatically be created, and the files will be extracted. they're now ready
for use, and will load into RAM during engine initialization. After enigne
startup...with TripleBases fully loaded into RAM, and if using default Hash sizes,
Firebird 1.1 will occupy approx. 625 MB of memory.

128 MB Hash
32 MB Pawn Hash
461 MB TripleBases
4 MB TotalBase cache
---
625 MB Total

With FireBird 1.1, the TripleBases will load automatically on engine startup
if the sub-directory /TripleBases exists and is populated with a valid triplebase
installation, and if the default firebird.cfg file is present.

To prevent autoloading:
1) edit the firebird.cfg and replace
AutoLoad TripleBases 1 with
AutoLoad TripleBases 0
2) rename the /TripleBases directory to something other than TripleBases
3) move it to a different location
4) remove it

if FireBird crashes during startup (i.e. while loading the triplebases)...it is
likely you have a corrupt or invalid TripleBase installation. Simply download the
TripleBase archive again (from a reliable source) and re-install it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
my goal with FireBird was to combine all the best ideas, features,
and strengths from the IppoLit chain of releases:
IppoLito, RobboLito, Igorrit, and IvanHoe, into one engine.

FireBird is based on the IppoLit family of engines, more info here:

this chess ship is a truly glorious achievement of the
October Revolution and Decembrists movement!
